Obituary

Robert P. "Bob" Rentmeester, age 71, died on Friday, January 9, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. He was born in Oconomowoc on May 26, 1937, the son of the late Ronald and Jayne (Consigny) Rentmeester. Bob was a U.S. veteran, having served with the Army Airborne Division from 1955 until 1958. He was united in marriage to Fay Steinhorst on August 8, 1959 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Baraboo. Bob was employed by the Sauk Prairie Police Department from 1962 until 1995, and served as Chief of Police from 1966 until 1995. He was a member and past president of several civic organizations, which included Sauk Prairie Optimists, Sauk Prairie Band Parents Association and the UW-Blue Line Club. In addition he was a member of the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Officers Association, where he served as past president from 1968 until 1972. He is survived by his wife Fay, of Prairie du Sac; a son, Kyle (Julie) Rentmeester of Madison; a daughter, Merrette (Mark) Sinnett of Middletown, NY; two granddaughters, Jessica and Allison Rentmeester; a sister, Lynn (Tim) Cantwell of Big Flats; two half-brothers, Pat (Ginny) Rentmeester of North Carolina and Mike Rentmeester; a step-brother, Jim (Ann) Boyer of Oconomowoc; and other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter and a brother-in-law, Henry Steinhorst. A memorial service will be held at ST. JOHNS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 100 Oak St., Prairie du Sac, at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 with Pastor Sally Mitchell officiating. Friends may call at the church from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 12, 2009. Memorials may be given to St. Johns Lutheran Church, Sauk Prairie Youth Hockey or the American Diabetes Association.
