IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rochelle "Shelly"
Wirtz
October 24, 2021
Rochelle "Shelly" Wirtz, 65, of Wisconsin Dells, passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2021. She was born December 5, 1955 to Robert and Helen (Merkel) Nelson. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Wirtz on June 27, 1986 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Sturtevant, WI. Shelly was a loving and devoted wife and mother to her family in a selfless way. She had nothing but unconditional love for her late husband and two children, Shawn Van Ert (Lee Volovsek) and Lance (Erin) Van Ert. She especially loved being a grandmother to Ariel, Ashley, Jayden, Lincoln and Langdon. Shelly enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, especially at Christmas time.
She made Christmas magical for her children; with the abundance of Christmas decorations, cookies, fudge and her secret recipe for peanut brittle. Shelly also enjoyed crocheting, fishing and gardening when she was physically able. Shelly had a smile and personality that attracted many friends over the years. She enjoyed visiting over coffee or lunch and catching up with family and friends. Shelly was a woman with an incredibly strong will to live. She beat the odds over and over again, undergoing three organ transplant surgeries. Her mind never gave up her will to live but her body was tired. Shelly will be remembered for her strength, her laugh, her smile and her kindness.
In addition to Shelly's children and grandchildren she is survived by her step children Michelle (Mark) Cedarburg and Scott Wirtz; sisters, Debra Powderly, Viola Farmer and Pam Goll; her brothers, George Nelson, Robert (Kari) Nelson Jr. and Jeff Nelson; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, in-laws and a few very close friends. Shelly was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Wirtz; father, Robert Nelson Sr.; and mother, Helen Nelson. The family would like to extend a sincere appreciation and thank you to the Transplant team at UW Madison and to the doctors and nurses who cared for her most recently at Meriter Hospital in Madison and Agrace Hospice Care.
A memorial/Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at Reedsburg Country Club (3003 E Main St, Reedsburg, WI) from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Online guestbook is available at www.hooversonfuneralhomes.com
