Obituary

Rodney Lyle Premo, 92, of Prairie du Sac, passed away on February 9, 2012 in Spring Green, Wisconsin. He was a life long resident of Sumpter Township where he was born on November 27, 1919. Rodney graduated from Prairie du Sac High School in 1937.

In 1941, Rodney enlisted in the U.S. Navy, following his brother Melvin's career path. He trained at Great Lakes Naval Training Command in Illinois. While he and his future wife, Joan, were traveling to Florida for further training to be an aviation mechanic, news came to the world that there was a bombing at Pearl Harbor. Rodney married Rebecca Joan Roessler, Sauk City, on May 14, 1943, on a weekend pass from the Navy. Rodney serviced planes and trained pilots in California, Hawaii, and Florida. He also accompanied Admiral "Bull" Halsey on "Good Will" junkets to South America and the Far East. After the Navy, he returned to Prairie du Sac and began a long and successful life in farming. Rodney was active in square dancing with the Tri-County Squares, Neighborhood Card Club (for over 50 years), 4-H and 4-H Leader, Sauk County Pork Producers, and American Legion Post 167.





Rodney is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Rebecca Joan (Roessler); daughters, Jill (Derry) Brunscheen of Manitowoc, WI, Penny Rendall (Jay) of White Bear Lake, MN; two grandchildren, Rebecca Rendall of White Bear Lake and Wil (Stephanie) Rendall of Fort Polk, LA; brother, Melvin (Sally) Premo of FL; sisters-in-law, Maxine Hambrecht, Collette McFarlane, Donna Faye (Sylvester) Statz, Loretta (Peter) Dooley; and many nieces and nephews.

Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Dora Premo; sisters, Sylvia (John) Gray of Madison, WI, and Bonita (Cyril) Kenney of Oakland, CA; brother Wayne Premo (age 4): brother/sister-in-laws, Mildred Premo, FL, Mary and John Flauger, Merc and Hillary Mack, Polly and Russ Malone, Delbert Hambrecht, Richard Mabbot, and James McFarlane.



Rodney will be remembered as a loving brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend.





A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, February 17, 2012 at 11:30, at ST. ALOYSIUS CATHOLIC CHURCH, Sauk City, WI. Visitation will be held at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Sauk City, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 16, 2012, and also on Friday at the funeral home from 10:15 to 11:15am. Burial will be in Otter Creek Cemetery.



In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to American Legion Post 187 Scholarship Fund, Ruth Culver Library Foundation, and Otter Creek Cemetery.
