Obituary

Roger Ralph Foster, 83, of Sauk Prairie, passed away on July 25, 2022, at the Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital. Roger was born in Millville, Wisconsin on August 10, 1938, to Leonard and Genevieve Foster. He grew up in Blue River with brothers Robert and Merle. As a young boy, he loved riding horses and playing basketball. He attended high school in Boscobel.

In his late teens, he met Karen Emery and it was love at first sight. A proposal quickly followed on their first official date. After a few years of courtship, they married and settled in Sauk City. They started a family, complete with Rodger, Julie, Jeffrey, Mark, Melodie, Kristen, James, and Paul. As a family, they loved all animals, driving and riding horses, and fishing. He was a kind and dependable cowboy, father, friend, devoted semi and bus driver, and a fan of many of the Sauk Prairie sports teams.

Roger was a long-time member of the Badger Steam and Gas Engine Club. You could guarantee to find him the third week of August at the Steam Show, in the barn, giving rides and/or demonstrating horse-powered equipment.

Roger is survived by his wife Karen, their children: Rodger (Christina), Julie (Thomas) Endres, Jeffrey (Lynn), Mark (Nancy), Melodie (Jeff) Sliter, Kristen (Rick) Wenzel, and James (Sharon), 22 grandchildren: Melissa, Andrea, Ashley, Rachel, Matt, Brittney, Heidi, Sam, Hannah, Aaron, Eli, TJ, Alex, Danny, Madeline, Simon, Stuart, Johnathan, Aleksa, Mariah, Isaiah, and Elijah, 19 great-grandchildren, sister Peggy (Dan) Ellefson, brother Gary (Deb), beloved friends Butch and Jackie Stoffels, honorary daughter Emily and special dog Norman. He was preceded in passing by his son, Paul Grant, brothers: Robert and Merle, parents: Leonard, Genevieve, step-mother Marion Foster, step-father Warren Wiste, godson Jason Stoffels, and many pets (to mention only a few, Joe, Lady, Kelly, Clyde, Cozy, steeds, Sundance, and Star Buckle).

A visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Hooverson Funeral Home, 251 Water St., Sauk City on August 9, 2022. His family will be present to welcome loved ones. A celebration of life will be held on August 10, 2022, Roger's 84th birthday, at the Divine Mercy Parish/St. Aloysius', Gymnasium, in Sauk City.  For the celebration of life there will be a visitation at 10:00 am and a service at 11:00 am with a luncheon to follow.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Sauk Prairie Healthcare for their care and support in the last days of his life.
