IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ronald "Ron"
J. Peetz
July 13, 1945 – March 30, 2024
Ronald John Peetz, age 78, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Merrimac, WI on Sat. night, Mar. 30, 2024. Ron was born July 13, 1945 to the late Walter and Evelyn (Borgrud) Peetz. He was a graduate of the last Prairie du Sac high school class of 1963. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Army reserve.
After stints as an electrician and work at the State of Wisconsin, Bancroft Dairy, Badger Ordinance and Woodman Accident and Life, Ron had a successful 30 year career at Oscar Mayer, retiring as the supervisor of the company's power plant. Never one to sit still, he owned and operated Ron's Antique Tap in downtown Sauk City for a number of years. Ron loved being surrounded by family and friends both old and new. He had a knack for lifting people up who were down on their luck and was always willing to lend a hand. People gravitated toward him; he touched so many lives. Of course, being at the bar allowed Ron to play cards, enjoy a few drinks and listen to his favorite tunes. He loved collecting antiques including old juke boxes and player pianos. Ron especially loved trips to the casino with his beloved Judy.
Ron also enjoyed his small-town Merrimac, where he loved being on the lake. He served Merrimac as the town constable, president of the Oak Hill Cemetery Association, and as a member of the Merrimac Conservation Club.
Ron most looked forward to spending time with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren; he is survived by the longtime love of his life, and classmate from high school, Judy Bible; his daughters, Annie Peetz (Duane) and Becky (Jim) Easland and grandchildren, Riley (Karissa) and Erin Easland and step-grandchildren Trey, Drew (Nicole) and Josh and step-great grandchildren Leighton, Quinten and Emerson; his brother and best friend, Wally (Judy) Peetz and nephew's Steve (Nadine) and Derek (Dawn) Peetz and their children. Ron is also survived by Judy's children, Lonnie (Kathy), Teresa (Jim) and Doug (Ambre) and their children, along with many other relatives and friends, all of whom loved him so dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his half-brother, Phillip Peetz.
A poem by Thomas Paine is reflective on how Ron lived his life:
I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death.
A Celebration of Life for Ron will be held at the Dorf Haus, 8931 County Hwy. Y, Roxbury on Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm followed by a "last call" at the Antique Tap at 4:00 pm. The family requests that anyone considering sending flowers or gifts instead make a memorial, as Ron supported the Salvation Army and the local food pantry.
