Ronald Robert Royston passed peacefully on Oct 19, 2018. Born to Robert J Royston and Lucille T (Wadinski) in Mazomanie, WI on Jan 18, 1942. Ron lived many lifetimes in the 76 years he lived LIFE! He was unique and special to so many people. Ron served in the army as a combat medic, drafted serving 1964-70. Returning to Mazomanie, he took a job with the railroad and enjoyed the hard work and everything to do with trains, eventually taking yard master position. Retiring from the railroad, Ron became US Postmaster for Mazomanie, eventually leaving the workforce in his 50's, to get out and enjoy life and his many passions.

Ron dabbled in everything. As a youth he restored steam engines, worked for the canning company, and his retirement businesses included delivering bark mulch and selling Christmas trees. He turned wood into beautiful vases and made incredible tables for his home, his friends and family. Ron bicycled 50 plus miles per day and annually joined RAGBRAI. He was an avid car collector, downhill skier, waterskier, skateboarder, boat racer, motorcycle rider, and took those balance skills to the hills at 49 and taught himself to snowboard in 3 short years. He instructed at Tyrol and Devil's Head. He was invited to join the US Olympics team for snowboarding but turned it down due to other commitments. Becoming a National Snowboard Champion numerous times for his age group, his last medal won at age 60.He was always questioned about his age on the slopes and he always said he didn't think they sold grey hair dye, so yes "he was old".

Ron retired from snowboard coaching in 2008 when he had learned he had been diagnosed with a rare form of dystrophy called FSH. He decided to spend winter someplace warmer traveling to his favorite place in the world, Bangkok. From there he was going to branch out to a few more countries that year so that his worldly travels were half of the places on the globe. He made annual trips to Thailand, he loved everything about the place and those experiences were woven into stories every day of his life.

Ron's disabilities with the disease did not limit him from anything he had passion about, which as of late was his travels to Thailand, his second home in San Antonio, and his main home on the prairie in Mt Vernon. His abilities to turn sandy acres into a prairie flower wonderland was nothing short of talent, beauty, and dedication. Ron recently generously donated his lifelong collection of railroad memorabilia to the museum in Milwaukee. Ron's weekly letter submissions to the WSJ editor were published frequently.

Ron will be remembered by family in a private celebration of life. Ron is survived by 3 siblings, Patti (Robert) Gutwiler of Arena, WI, Ken (Annie) of Milton, FL, and Clark (Esther) of San Antonio, TX, many nieces and nephews, his former spouse Sharon Royston and her son Jeff (Lori) Lombardo, two grandchildren Ellie and Sonny and a good friend for the last couple years Eileen Thompson ("Angel") and many very dear family and friends. Ron was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Alan.
