Rose I. Baars, age 100, died on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at Maplewood of Sauk Prairie. She was born in West Point Township on December 11, 1912, the daughter of the late Albert and Clara Jane (Carncross) Stephens. She was united in marriage to Lee Graf. He preceded her in death in 1947. In August 1951 she married Ludwig Baars. She farmed the family farm with Lee and later with Ludwig, until his death in 1977. Rose set an example of hard work and responsibility, serving many years as a nursing assistant at Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by 6 children, Elaine Graf Sprecher, Lee W. (Carolyn) Graf, Richard C. (Karen) Graf, Stephen A. (Cathy) Graf, Tom Baars, and Denise Baars; 9 grandchildren, Linda Huffman, Russell (Christine) Sprecher, Roger Sprecher, Sarah (Matt) Weibel, Daniel (Jessica) Graf, David Graf, Jennifer (Josh) Fite, Angela Baars, and Nichole (Nathan) Doris; 17 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law, Hazel Graf and Betty Stephens; other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Flora Licht, Dorothy Blum, and Clarice Breunig; 3 brothers, Henry Stephens, Nels Stephens, and Raymond Gasser; and a grandson, Matthew Baars.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 8, 2013 at ST. JOHN'S EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 100 Oak St., Prairie du Sac, with Pastor Sally Williams officiating. Burial will be in Garden Bluff Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
