Obituary

Ruby P. Pickar, age 93, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at St. Clare Hospice House in Baraboo.  She was born in Honey Creek Township on January 8, 1921, the daughter of the late Edward and Anna (Slotty) Balfanz.  She was united in marriage to Clarence Pickar on May 30, 1940.  The couple farmed in Sumpter Township.  Clarence preceded her in death on October 5, 1989.  Ruby was an active member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Prairie du Sac, and it's Quilting Group.  She was employed as a cook at Sauk Prairie High School for 20 years.
She is survived by 7 children, Barbara (Eugene), Jerome (Rita), Thomas (Sandy), Philip, Douglas (Kathy), Alice (Greg) and Kurtis (Sue); 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Berniece Balfanz; other relatives and friends.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her step-father Albert Knuth, grandson Terry Jarvis, sister Elsbeth Holdorf, and brother Ervin Balfanz.
A funeral service will be held at ST. JOHN'S EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, Prairie du Sac, at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2014 with Pastor Fred Rilling officiating.  Burial will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery.  A visitation will be held at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Sauk City, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 and also at the church on Thursday, one hour prior to the service.
