Obituary

Russel J. Ditsch, age 86, passed away at Heartland Country Village in Black Earth, Nov. 17, 2020.  He was born in Merrimac on Mar. 25, 1934 to the late Roman and Marion (Gavol) Ditsch.  He worked hard for many years, retiring as a Welder for Barber Greene Equipment Manufacturing in Aurora, Il.  In his retirement you could find Russ most days with a fishing rod in his hand.  He knew all the honey holes and the back sloughs of the Wisconsin River often fishing with his brother, "Bucket Man Donny" and the rest of the "Bucket Brigade".  Russ also enjoyed berry picking, camping and playing cards.

He is survived by his children, Sandra Elsten, Dorothy Zellmer, Mark, Eugene (Karen Radke), Clarence, Sara (Henry) Ditsch-Harrison, Christopher, Beth, and Katheryn; 12 grandchildren, several great grandchildren; brothers, Earl (Jean), Arthur  (Mary "Pauline"), Phillip (Carmen) and his sister, Shirley Broten.  He is further survived by other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donald "Bucket Man" Ditsch.

As per Russ's wishes, no service will be held at this time; a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Russ's family would like to express their gratitude to the staff and healthcare workers at Heartland Country Village and Agrace Hospice, and to his fishing buddies, "The Bucket Brigade".
