Russell "Russ" Ervin Hunt, age 75, of Baraboo and formerly of Lodi passed away peacefully at St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2022. He was born in Ashland, WI on Sept. 20, 1947 to the late Ervin R. and Roberta M. (Roth) Hunt. Russ graduated Sun Prairie High School in 1965. After high school, Russ owned and operated his own filling station in downtown Madison; it was there he made his lifelong friend, Vern Hornback.
Russ was united in marriage to Wendy Acker on Jan. 10, 1976. Shortly after marriage they hand built a home together in the Sunburst community outside of Sun Prairie. Russ worked in excavating while building the home, but moved into equipment sales, and later truck sales in La Crosse. Russ and Wendy moved back to the Sun Prairie area to be closer to family where Russ worked in truck sales for Gilomen Mack, eventually settling into a 25 year career as the Sales Manager at Capital City International and later as the General Manager at Badger Truck Center until his retirement in 2015.
He had many hobbies and interests, including riding motorcycles, snowmobiles, boating and racing and owning hobbystock and late model stock cars where he held track records at local tracks. Russ enjoyed aviation; he and his friend Dan restored, flew and partnered in owning a Cessna 120. Russ was a talented woodworker; he enjoyed building projects at home and built some of his own furniture. He also enjoyed shooting trap league with Wendy at Poynette Gun Club for many years. Russ was a member of Badger Steam and Gas Club, ZOR Shrine, Masonic Lodges of Sun Prairie and Lodi, as well as a member of the Scottish Rite where he was proud to be a past Commander in Chief. Russ will be remembered for his hard work ethic, depth of knowledge, keen wit, compassion, but most importantly his love of his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Wendy; 3 son's Martin (Melissa) Hunt and his children, Koltin (22), Emmett (12), and Ashlynn (9); Barry (Caitlin) Hunt; Jerry (Mandy) Hunt and their 3 children, Sadie (12), Addison (11), and Beau (2); siblings, Norm (Mary), Tom (Heather), Dave (Kim); he is further survived by good friend, Vern (Sandy) Hornback, many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Marilynn.
A Celebration of Russ's Life and a luncheon will be held at the Town of Westpoint Town Hall N2114 Rausch Rd., Lodi, WI on Sunday, Nov. 20 th from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm. There will be a Masonic funeral service at 1:00 pm, followed by his eulogy given by his son Marty.
Russ's family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to the staff at St. Clare Hospital, the many first responders and EMT's who've helped Russ through the years, his longtime PT therapist Amanda and friends and family who have helped Russ with his almost 20 year battle with Parkinson's Disease.
In lieu of flowers, Russ's family would appreciate donations made in memory of/honor of him to American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) whom he had been involved with during his battle of Parkinson's.
