IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sara
Motisi-Olah
March 1, 1952 – March 27, 2024
Sara Motisi-Olah age 72, of rural Mazomanie passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Maplewood Nursing Home, Sauk City with her husband Michael by her side after a valiant 25 year battle with Multiple Sclerosis. She was born March 1st, 1952 to the late Sam and Elaine (Helgesen) Motisi. Sara attended LaFollette High School in Madison and continued her education at Madison General Hospital School of Nursing, earning her Registered Nursing License on August 27th, 1973. She dedicated herself to caring for children at Meriter Hospital for the next 42 years, eventually becoming the charge nurse for the Pediatric ICU. As a nurse she gave selflessly of herself to help and educate others at an annual Asthma camp every summer. Sara enjoyed her career and the many lifelong connections and cherished relationships she developed as well as being an enthusiastic supporter of her nurses' union. She was admired by co-workers and respected by many in the medical profession.
Sara was united in marriage to Michael Olah on July 10th, 1993. They met for the first time at a skydiving drop zone. She had been jumping for 5 years before Michael decided that he wanted to try the sport as well. Sara and Michael enjoyed skydiving for many years and to no-ones amazement, arrived to their wedding reception by parachute which garnered a full page spread in the Wis. State Journal. Sara was fearless and came to be known as the skydiving nurse by her peers at Meriter Hospital. Sara made over 1000 jumps; the highlight being the 5th woman to legally jump off of El Capitan in Yosemite National Forest, a 3200' shear granite peak. Sara and Michael enjoyed traveling in their twin engine Cessna airplane and used it to travel all over the U.S. and even to the Cayman Islands a (bucket list) trip. Sara and Michael were accomplished scuba divers and snow skiers and enjoyed trips and adventurers all over the world.
Her diagnosis with MS in 1999 gave Sara the vision for fundraising for the awareness and treatment of MS. She and Michael participated in and fundraised annually for the MS-150 mile bike ride; eventually raising over $100,000 for MS research.
Sara is survived by her husband, Michael and their dog Shine; sister, Toni Paskey, and niece, Samantha Thangaraj, and nephew Jake Landphier.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Roseanne Motisi, and dogs, Indigo and Brandi.
Sara's family would like to thank all of the wonderful caregivers at Maplewood Nursing Home and Agrace Hospice for their comforting and compassionate care.
A celebration of Sara's life will be held at a later date.
