Obituary

Sarah Ann (Jarman) Schirra, age 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2025 at Agrace Hospice in Madison. Sarah was born in St. Louis, Missouri on May 12, 1953 to the late Gilbert and Marian (Ward) Jarman.  She grew up in Oswego, IL and attended Wheaton Academy. She studied at Taylor University and earned her BS from Appalachian State.

Sarah was united in marriage to Thomas Schirra on Nov. 23, 1974.  As a high school special education teacher, she saw the potential in every student and championed those who needed an extra voice. She spent the majority of her career teaching at Rhinelander High School in northern Wisconsin.

Throughout her life Sarah enjoyed many hobbies such as spending time with her grandchildren, knitting, music, reading, yard work/gardening, and caring for her dogs. She has always had a love of dogs, and they have been a source of great joy and companionship throughout her life.

She is survived by her husband, Tom; children: Mark Schirra (Grace Schirra) and Elizabeth (Schirra) Keefer (Brice Keefer); grandchildren: Greta & Alice Schirra, Hudson, Marshall, Margaret, and Landon Keefer; sibling: Brad Jarman (Dorothy Jarman).

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Tom Jarman (survived by Jan Jarman).

She will be honored in a private family ceremony at a place she loved.

Sarah's family would like to thank Agrace Hospice and Sienna Crest, as well as all the caretakers and physicians who cared for her and supported all family members.  If you feel compelled to make a memorial, please direct your gift to Agrace
