She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Leland. She grew up helping on the farm and in the house while attending one-room elementary schools, taking piano and saxophone lessons, and participating in 4-H and later High School Chorus, both of which led her to singing & piano solos in district competitions. Her 4-H experiences included Offices and Speaking Contests at the County and State levels, and a National Clothing Award. Shirley had much appreciation for her parents' guidance with 4-H and music opportunities. She graduated from Prairie du Sac High School in 1955.
After High School Graduation, Shirley began her career in banking in Reedsburg, and later in Sauk City.
Shirley was united in marriage to Lenard Litscher at St. John Lutheran Church in Leland on December 26, 1959. Their life was busy farming on the Litscher Homestead and raising their family.

Through the years, Shirley played the organ or sang solos at over 300 weddings and funerals. She said that music filled her heart with love, compassion and deep feelings for her family, friends, God and community.
Shirley taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir and later directed the choir, served on the Church Council and as president of the ladies organization, and enjoyed singing with the Ecumenical Choirs. She was a 4-H project Leader, served on the University of Baraboo Continuing Education Board, County Extension Homemaker member for over 50 years, directed the Sauk Co. Homemakers Chorus for 12 years and participated in the Living Flag presentations for over 40 years.
Lenard and Shirley had been married for 29 years when Lenard passed away on April 7, 1989. A couple years later, Shirley married Alan Albers. They continued with church work and also managed the Merrimac Mutual Insurance Company for 15 years. They were blessed with a wonderful life after which Alan passed away on September 8, 2022, on their 31st wedding anniversary.
Shirley's accomplishments of sewing, scrapbooking, acquiring collectibles and historical family tidbits, and writing poetry and stories have left a legacy of her life.
