Obituary

Shirley Ann Meise, age 74, passed away peacefully at University Hospital in Madison on June 19, 2024.  She was born Aug. 3, 1949, the daughter of the late LaVerne and Gertrude (Rickli) Thomas.  She grew up in rural Cobb attending school there and in Barneveld when her family moved.  She was united in marriage to Joseph Wilkinson Sr on June 11, 1966; he preceded her in death in 1973.  She was married later to Delbert Meise at St. Lukes Catholic Church, Plain on Aug. 28, 1976.

Shirley was a caretaker in all her years of working and enjoyed helping others at each of her places of work.  She ended her career at the Greenway Manor nursing home in Spring Green.   She played an active role in her children's school associations and church and was always happy to volunteer her time.  Shirley enjoyed reading, putting together puzzles, grilling out, tending to her garden and flowers, and visiting with her family.  When stopping to visit, we were usually directed outside to sit, enjoy a Diet Coke, and take a tour of her flower garden.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Delbert; her children, Angella (Wade) Spurley, Joseph Wilkinson Jr, Todd (Renee) Wilkinson, Michelle (Brad) Eno, Christine (Ross) Copper; 16 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; siblings, Bernard Fortman, Helen Beckwith, Janice Schindler, Phyllis Husom, and Donald Fortman; she is further survived by other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and first husband; she was preceded in death by a daughter in-law, Jeanne Wilkinson; a sister, Marilyn Landon; and brother in-laws Gene Beckwith and Paul Schindler; sister in-law, Karen Fortman.

A funeral service will be held at the Hooverson Funeral Home, at 707 Emily Rd in Mazomanie, Wisconsin, at 11:00 on Tuesday, June 25th.  A luncheon will follow at Grandma Mary's Café at 175 US Hwy 14, Arena, Wisconsin.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the University Hospital for making her last days more comfortable.
