Shirley G. Moely, age 96,  of Prairie du Sac, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Maplewood of Sauk Prairie, after a brief illness.  She was born on April 17, 1917 in Prairie du Sac to Louis and Minnie Steuber. She graduated from Prairie du Sac High School in 1934.

Shirley began her working career as a telephone operator before marrying Merton Moely on February 7, 1942.     She and Merton farmed the Ferry Bluff farm before moving to Sauk City in 1964. At that time, Shirley became a sales clerk at Marie's Dress Shop in Sauk City. The couple moved to Park Avenue in 1976 where Shirley enjoyed gardening, especially her beautiful flowers. During retirement Shirley continued to garden, and enjoyed time at their Lake Wisconsin cottage, helping Merton with the maple syrup, reading, and playing cards with friends.  In July 2012 she made Maplewood Village her home.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and Steve Thurwachter (Plover); three sisters-in-law, Doris Steuber, Caroline Steuber, and Sharal Steuber, all of Prairie du Sac; numerous nieces and nephews; her dear friends, the Marie's Dress Shop girls; and Village neighbor, Lucinda Gruber.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Merton Moely; brothers, Ralph Steuber, Theron Steuber and Edsel Steuber; and sister-in-law, Mildred Steckelberg.

The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff at Maplewood Village and especially Karen Volker for her kindness, Maplewood of Sauk Prairie, Home Health United Hospice, and Pastor Bill Kapp for his attentiveness to Shirley and her family.

A funeral service will be held at FIRST UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, Sauk City, at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 14, 2014, with Pastor Bill Kapp officiating.  Burial will follow in the Sauk City Cemetery.  Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
