Obituary

Thelma June Johnson Beebe died peacefully in her sleep at Maplewood Nursing Home in Prairie du Sac, WI on Oct 11, 2015. She was born in Pawnee, OK on Sept 27, 1918 the daughter of Laurens Cooley and Bertha (Sloan) Johnson. She graduated from Oklahoma A & M University in 1941 with a bachelor's degree in Home Economics. In 1941 she entered the Navy WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) and served as a Link Trainer, teaching blind flying procedures to Navy cadets, until she was discharged in 1944. She was married to James W Beebe in 1944 and they had three sons. June, as she liked to be called, taught third grade in the Denver public school system from 1962-1982. June was an avid family historian, genealogist, seamstress and gardener. After retirement, she served as a volunteer at the Denver National Archives from 1988-2000 assisting others in their pursuit of their family histories. Through her work June attained membership in the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Columbine Genealogical Historical Society, Women in Military Service for America, and the Presidential Families of America. June was preceded in death by her parents, her three brothers, Lloyd, Clark and Fred Johnson and her oldest son Jim (Lorna) Beebe.

She is survived by her sons, Jared (Ann Marie) Beebe of Quebec, Canada, Joel (June) Beebe of Prairie du Sac; grandchildren, Dawn, Angie, Caitlin, Tamsyn, Annie Laurie and Yves Beebe and five great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Oct 16 from 4-5pm in the chapel at Maplewood Nursing Home, 245 Sycamore St., Sauk City.
