Obituary

Thresa "Tressa" Mary Ann Schulenburg, age 99 1/2, of Sauk City, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Maplewood Nursing Home in Sauk City.  Thresa was born on October 26, 1922 in Black Earth, the daughter of the late Richard S. and Ruby R. (Bester) Handel.  She was united in marriage to Lester LaVerne Schulenburg on November 26, 1947 at St. Martin's Lutheran Church, Cross Plains.  He preceded her in death on July 15, 2011.  They celebrated 63 years.  They moved from Cross Plains to Sauk City and then settled on a farm in rural Spring Green, where they farmed until retirement in 1986.  Upon retirement, they moved to Sauk City.

Thresa's boys meant the world to her, as well as her daughter-in-laws.  Raising three mischievous boys took up a lot of her time, along with gardening, canning, and cooking for her family.  She was well known by many for her homemade bread.  While farming, she enjoyed tending to the chickens and calves.  Her eyes lit up when she saw her five grandchildren and their spouses and ten great-grandchildren.  Thresa was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church for 75 years.

Survivors include her three sons, Lyle of Spring Green, Virgil (Debra) of Deerfield, and Terry (Joanne) of Prairie du Sac; five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, James (Ashley) of Prairie du Sac and their children Addison and Lauren, Andrew (Laura) of Plain and their children Sophia and Anthony Perez and Kennedy and Lincoln, Daniel (Willow) of Prairie du Sac and their children Natalie and Jack, Pamela (Derek) Shaw of Sauk City and their children Randy and Sadie, and Rebecca of Madison; three brothers, Harold Handel of Black Earth, Philip (Mary) Handel of Middleton, and John (Joan) Handel of Deerfield.  She is further survived by many relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, Thresa was preceded in death by an infant son, Roger on October 10,1960; five brothers, Arthur (Helen), Paul, Vergel (Ruby), Donald (Imogene), and Louie (Mary); two sisters, Rose (Henry) Scheele and Hazel (in infancy); and in-laws, Hubart Schulenburg, Vincent (Berneice) Schulenburg, and Velma (Pat) Hohn.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at ST. JOHN'S EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 100 Oak St., Prairie du Sac, with Pastor Fred Rilling officiating.  Visitation will be held prior to the service at the church from 1:00 p.m. until time of service.  Interment will follow in the Prairie du Sac Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 Oak Street, Prairie du Sac WI 53578.

Thresa's family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. McAuliffe and the staff of Maplewood Nursing Home for their wonderful care.

Life doesn't come with a manual.  It comes with a Mother.  On an Angel's wing you were taken away, but in our hearts you will always stay.  Our love for you is forever and always.  Rest easy in Lester's embrace.
