Obituary

Thomas "Tom" J. Bannan, age 79, of West Point Township, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, June 23, 2025.  He was born March 19, 1946 to the late Phillip and Julia (Barbian) Bannan.  Tom was a member of the first graduating class of Sauk Prairie High School in 1964 and went on to graduate from the U.W. Farm short course program.

He was united in marriage to Nancy A. Slotty on Jan. 20, 1968 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Sauk City.  Together they farmed the Bannan Farmstead in the West Point Township as the third generation of their family, since 1893.  He was proud of his family's Irish heritage, naming his farm Irish Acres.  In the past, Tom and Nancy were active in the Young Farmers of Wisconsin Dairies Coop; also hosting the Columbia Co. Dairy Breakfast in 1991.  He was elected a member of Outstanding Young Men of America in 1981 and also served as Chair for the Town and County Days.  Tom was a member of the Sauk Prairie FFA alumni, he helped out with local tractor pulls, and participated in many demolition derby events.

Aside from the farming, he served in the Sauk Prairie Jaycee's, where he previously served as State Director and local President while enjoying many of their events like the Super Olympkicks and making many lifelong friends.  Tom was a longtime fan of the Green Bay Packers and was lucky enough to have season tickets for many years.  He looked forward to Tuesday night sheepshead and cards, attending auctions and family events.  Tom and Nancy also enjoyed traveling; highlights being Ireland, Hawaii, Mexico, the Superbowl and visiting their AFS exchange student in Japan.

Tom is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughters, Kelly (Paul) Zimmerman and their children, Kassie (Dom) Goodman, Kelsie (Jacob) Frey, Jake (Lacy) Zimmerman; Karen (Eric) Taylor and their children, Lacey and Luke; Krista (Mike) Meeker and their children, Kaylee and Cameron; one great grandchild, Thea Frey; siblings, Elaine "Suz" Kowalke, Mary (Dan) Brumm, and Jim (Sharon) Bannan; sister in-laws, Kathy Bannan and Linda Bannan; his brother from another mother, Richard "Dick" Nolden; AFS Exchange student, Ayako Marie Ido and family; and a special daughter, Aimee Bauer Miotke.  Tom is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, John and Robert "Bob" Bannan; brother in-law, Ken Kowalke; niece, Anna Bannan.

Tom's family would like to thank the Meriter ICU Team and Agrace Hospice for their care of Tom.  And, thank you to their neighbors at Millers Fourth-Generation Homestead for all of their help.
