Obituary

Vera Ann Irene Denu, age 92, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, February 12, 2023, at Meadowview Memory Care, Baraboo.

Vera was born on April 8, 1930, in Roxbury, Wisconsin, the daughter of Joseph and Valeria (Mack) Eckstein. She was married to Roy Denu on February 16, 1953. Together they shared 37 years of marriage prior to Roy's passing in 1990.

Vera was a very religious, devoted Catholic who attended Mass at St. Barnabas Catholic Church. She helped plan meals for various church occasions along with many other church related volunteer activities. She had numerous jobs throughout her life but will always be remembered for her devotion to her first job at West Side Dairy in Sauk City. She also worked at Manchesters, Grabers and Peoples State Bank. One of her favorite jobs was working the vegetable stand at her son's farm, Brookside Gardens in Mazomanie.

She took several trips with her husband to some beautiful locations with Kalscheur Implement including Hawaii, Venezuela, and Mexico City. She loved dancing, bowling, gardening, cooking, enjoying, and maintaining many friendships throughout the years and was totally devoted to raising her nine children.

Survivors include her eight children; Kathy (Craig deceased) Selstad, Windsor, CO; Ken (Judy), Mazomanie; Renee Nonn (partner Joe Ross), Sauk City; David (Lissa), CO; Richard (Lisa), Waunakee; Karen (David) Caraher, Northbrook, IL; Rodney (Maria), Mazomanie; Jeff (Amanda), Appleton; 25 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren;

siblings, Delores Hicks, Virginia (Roger) Rowe, Sharon (Stan) Frosch, brother in-law, James (Joanne) Denu, sisters in law, Sonja Eckstein, Avis Denu; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roy; son Robert; grandchildren Kyle and Melissa; parents Joseph and Valeria; in-laws, Roy, Sr., and Helen, sisters, Jane, Darlene, Patricia and brother Laverne; brother-in laws, Melvin, Barney, Edward, John, Algie, Paul, sister-in laws, Ruth and Janice.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2947 Thomas Street, Cross Plains, Wisconsin on Tuesday, February 21 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held prior to the Mass at 9:30-11:00 am. A reception will be held immediately after the Mass at the church Fellowship Hall. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Vera's life. Burial will be held later in the day at the Mazomanie Cemetery.
