Vera Marie Neuman, age 96, passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Pines Assisted Living in Prairie du Sac. She was born in Plain on November 13, 1914 to the late Anthony and Matilda (Ruhland) Brechtl. Vera married Wilbert W. "Bill" Neuman, April 23, 1941. Together they farmed a large farm near Leland in Honey Creek Township, which had been in Bill's family for many generations. Vera taught school at the Merrimac and Leland one-room school houses and eventually moved on to teach at Tower Rock School. She loved to teach and had very fond memories of the students and her teaching years. Vera was elected the Honey Creek Township Tax Assessor and served the Township for over 10 years.


She is survived by many nieces and nephews and very dear close friends, Julie Taylor and Luella Lichte.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill on Dec 6, 1991; and her siblings, Donna Brechtl, Mildred (Mike) McLain, Richard (Violet) Brechtl, Clayton (Irene) Brechtl, Janet (Harold) Simpson, and Sidney (Dorothy) Brechtl.


A funeral service will be held at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, 251 Water St., Sauk City, at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2011, with Pastor Fred Rilling officiating. Following the burial at the Sauk Prairie Cemetery, a gathering for family and friends will be held at the Blue Spoon Cafe in Prairie du Sac.
