Verna (Thiers) Roelke, passed in peace on December 11, 2024, at the age of 91.

Verna was born on March 11, 1933, in McGregor, Iowa to Werner and Ada Thiers. She attended seven different grade schools in McGregor and Milwaukee until the family's final move to Mazomanie where she attended all 4 years of high school. She was a graduate of the 1950 "Nifty" class. After graduation she started dating Charles Roelke and they soon fell in love.

Charlie and Verna were married on September 5, 1953, and enjoyed many years together and even were blessed to celebrate 71 years of marriage this year!

Verna was a longtime member of United Church of Christ in Mazomanie and was a lifetime member of the Mazomanie Historical Society and enjoyed being a part of the Handy Homemakers Club.

Verna in her younger days could be seen going to garage sales and was always excited to find a bargain. She was often found doing her crossword puzzles or enjoying time with her grandkids. She loved her time at Fish Lake and made wonderful memories with her family there. Verna was especially happy to welcome 4 great grandkids into her life. She always had a smile for children and loved being around them.

She is survived by her loving husband Charlie and her 3 children, Steve (Anne) Roelke, Sue (Scott) Fredericksen, and Scott (Judy) Roelke. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Kristen (Andy) Shelton, Daniel (Allison Rygh) Roelke, Elizabeth (Adam) Boyadjis, Hannah Fredericksen, Josie Fredericksen, Ada Roelke (fiancé John Coyle) and Charlotte Roelke, 4 great grandchildren, Cora and Drew Shelton, William and Russell Boyadjis, and her sister Carol (Bob) Niendorf along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Barbara Mellum, Allene Liegel and her special grandson, Joshua Roelke.

The family would like to thank Dr. Janelle Hupp and the Wisconsin Heights clinic staff, The Pines Assisted Living in Prairie du Sac for all of their care and Kevin Klingenmeyer from Agrace Hospice for his support and gentle guidance.

Mom, Grandma, we will miss your sharp and fun sense of humor and your smile.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Hooverson Funeral Home, 702 Emily Road, Mazomanie, Wi. 53560.

Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. at United Church of Christ, 109 West Hudson St., Mazomanie with visitation at 9:00 a.m. until the service begins.

Memorial donations may be made in Verna's name to: United Church of Christ in Mazomanie or The Mazomanie Historical Society.
