Vivian Winifred Hogie, born June 13, 1912, daughter of the late Hattie and Ernest O. Brewer of Stoughton, WI, died peacefully in her sleep on November 16, 2009, at Weiss Memorial Hospital, Chicago, IL, where she was being treated for pneumonia.

Preceding her in death were her husband John Earl Hogie, son John Brewer Hogie, and daughter Jeri K. Leffall. She is survived by 2 daughters: Joan Grabbe Brown and Jacqueline Pettiford Griffin of Chicago, IL; 8 grandchildren: Jean Grabbe, Cello Pettiford, twins Cellina Pettiford and Celeste (Tim) Jones, Sarah Griffin, and Scott Brown of Chicago, IL; Michael Grabbe of Long Beach, CA; and John Hogie (Kristy) Caesar of Winthrop, WA; 11 great grandchildren: Kaia, Nilo, Ala, Melissa; John Collins, Cello Jr., Ashley, Samantha; and Leif, Madison and McKaylie; 2 great great grandchildren: Avant and Maia; a beloved sister-in-law Jean Mattison of Stoughton, WI and 2 nieces: Mary Lou (Dr. Ted) Goodfriend of Madison, WI and Patricia (Dan) Crowley of Vancouver, WA.

Vivian grew up in Stougthton, WI, was a graduate of Stoughton High School, attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and graduated from Miss Brown's Business School, Milwaukee, WI.

Prior to marriage, Vivian was a secretary at her high school alma mater. After raising a family, she was employed nearly 20 years as Medical Secretary for the Chief of Staff of the Radiology, Oncology, and Nuclear Medicine Departments at St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin, IL. In 1974, the Hogies retired and moved to Bluffview, North Freedom, WI to spend their senior years.

Throughout her life, Vivian was active in community affairs. She was an avid reader, a prolific writer, a very talented artist, and a lover of nature. During retirement she studied Lapidary Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Baraboo as a hobby and she served on the boards of Sauk County Mental Health, Sauk Prairie Historical Society, Ferry Bluff Eagle Council, CSWAB, Bluffview Civic Assoc., and Bluffview Neighbor's Club.

Vivian was dearly loved by all who knew her -- and shall be greatly missed. Interment at Sauk Prairie Cemetery will take place at a later date and will be announced.
