Obituary

Doug Mabie, age 74, of Sauk Prairie passed away peacefully at Agrace Hospice, Janesville on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2023.  He was born in Baraboo on Oct. 27, 1949 to the late Ernest and Margaret (Schuetter) Mabie.  Growing up he attended the one room school house in Irish Valley and later grade school in Tower Rock.  Doug was a graduate of Sauk Prairie High School; class of 1967.  Following High School, he earned his associates degree from MATC in Culinary Arts.

Doug worked at the Dell Bar in Wisconsin Dells, but followed his passion of the outdoors and soon went to work at Ace Sauk Prairie in the outdoors and sporting goods.  He loved the outdoors, deer hunting, turkey hunting, and loved to roam the woods looking for shed antlers; elk hunting trips to Colorado with Ron, Don, Sam and Tony were especially memorable.  He was avid trap and sport shooter and competed in the Badger State Games.   His love of the outdoors took him many places camping with his family and friends; including a memorable camping trip to the Boundry Waters with Troop 145.  In earlier years he could also be found at league basketball and on the diamond playing softball and later umpiring games.  A roller-skating outing is where he met his future wife, Linda; they were married Sept. 2, 1972.  Together they enjoyed many years of couples bowling league with friends and raising their daughter, Jennifer.

Doug went on to work in the Grocery business working for both Burnstads and Piggly Wiggly and as a merchandiser and rep for R.J. Reynolds and Proctor and Gamble and drove a school bus route until his retirement.

Doug is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Scott) Thompson of Merrimac; brother, Ron (Sue) Mabie of Cottage Grove; he is further survived by nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his former wife, Linda on Oct. 4, 2018.

A Celebration of Doug's Life will be held on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2023 at the Prairie du Sac Fire Department, 855 17th St., Prairie du Sac from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm.

Doug's family would like to thank Agrace Hospice for making his last days comfortable and to the Oregon Manor for their care of Doug.

In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in honor of Doug and his love of the outdoors.
