Obituary

Walter August Wangero, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 26, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Dorothy; step son, Lawrence J. (Carol) Pakyz, step daughter, Elise Leark, and step son, James (Bonnie) Valladares; step grandchildren, Christopher (Debbie) Pakyz, Troy Pakyz, Jaime Ann (Mark) Roscoe, Michael Leark; nephews, John and Tom Ference of Illinois; and 6 step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Katherine and a sister, Nella.

Walter served in the Armed Forces and was a member of the 41st Infantry 162nd Division. He was stationed in the Pacific Southwest. He and his first wife, Katherine Gallagher enjoyed fostering several children from infants to kindergarten age, for over thirty years. Walter was employed by the Chicago Transit Authority for over thirty years, first as a streetcar driver and then as a bus driver. He spent many of his retirement years volunteering for the Food Pantry and traveling. He also was employed by Wells Fargo Bank in the mail department for fifteen years.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment will be in the Santa Fe National Veterans Cemetery, New Mexico. Memorials may be given to the Sauk Prairie Food Pantry.

Walter's family would like to thank Kevin Klingenmeyer and the Agrace Hospice Staff for their special care.
