Wayne Al Bahr, age 76, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at HospiceCare, Fitchburg with his dedicated and loving wife by his side. He was born on January 16, 1933 in Fond du Lac, the son of the late Orin Alvin Wilson and Laurencia Brazeau-Wilson Bahr. He grew up in Milwaukee where he married his high school sweetheart, Helen J. Martinich, on Jan. 25, 1958. The couple later moved to Arena.
Wayne served his country with two tours of duty in the 82nd. Div. as an air borne ranger and attained the rank of captain. He served fourteen months in Iceland. Following service, Wayne was a senior claims adjuster for General Casualty Co. and later owned his own agency, Wayne Bahr & Assoc. Hilltop Ins. L.L.C. His son, Mark continues the agency. Wayne had a love for the outdoors that made him a true eagle scout at heart. His sons and grandsons (seven in all) are eagle scouts and another one on the way. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Helen J. Bahr of Cross Plains; four sons, Paul Blank-Bahr (Nancy) of Milwaukee, Michael J. Bahr (Deborah) of Omaha, NE., Glen R. Bahr (Lori) of Platteville and Mark F. Bahr (Lisa) of Arena; ten grandchildren; Phillip, Marshall, Christopher, Jonathan, Loren, Benjamin, Elissa, Anna, Anthony and Amelia; a great- granddaughter, Angelina; other relatives and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BARNABAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, Mazomanie, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2009 with Rev. Msgr. O. Charles Schluter officiating. A luncheon will follow the Mass and burial will be at 2:00 p.m. at Hyde Cemetery. Friends may call at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, 702 Emily Rd., Mazomanie, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2009 and also at the funeral home on Friday morning after 10:00 a.m.
