Wayne L. "Wayner" Garfoot, age 79, died on Sunday, December 26, 2010 at his home. He was born in Vermont Township on January 24, 1931, the son of the late Glenn and Pearl (Moyer) Garfoot. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served from 1951 to 1953. He was united in marriage to Shirley Duhr on February 19, 1955. He retired in 1989 after 27 years as a highway patrolman for the Dane County Highway Department. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Merrimac.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Merrimac; four children, Lynne Grady of Mazomanie, Sandi Garfoot of Mazomanie, Jon Garfoot of Merrimac, and Suzi (Marc) Mickelson of Mazomanie; 6 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mae Tilley of Barneveld, Dorothy Knudtson of Oregon and Ellen Beckwith of New Glarus; a sister-in-law, Joyce Garfoot of Mount Horeb; several nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul; and a son-in-law, Jim Grady.
A memorial service will be held at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, 702 Emily Rd., Mazomanie, at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 6, 2011with Pastor Joel Bradtke officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Home Health United Hospice or Immanuel Lutheran Church.
