Werner John Ballweg, age 84, died on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at his home. He was born on June 20, 1927 to Florian and Emma (Breunig) Ballweg on the family farm in Roxbury. Werner lived and farmed there his entire life. He loved flowers and provided St. Norberts with their flowers at the Altar for many years. He also enjoyed fishing, traveling and playing cards. Werner served on the boards of: Wisconsin Dairies, Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital and was one of the founders of the Sauk Prairie St. Vincent DePaul. He was an active member of St. Norberts Catholic Church his entire life. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as Grand Knight. He was also in the River Arts Garden Tour (twice).
Werner is survived by his wife Fran Schlimgen Michels Beuthin. He is also survived by his children from his first wife Inez (Laufenberg) Ballweg and they are Steven
(Mary Louis Eberle) Ballweg of Prairie du Sac, Ronald (Mary Lee Richardson)
Ballweg of Baraboo, Linda & Charles Schlimgen of Barneveld, Jerome (Sue
Johnson) Ballweg of Mazomanie, Russell (Margie Niesen) Ballweg of Mazomanie,
Julie Ann Taylor of Prairie du Sac, Ricky (Dena Fenske) Ballweg of Mazomanie, Gregory Ballweg of Richland Center and Marietta & Marc Reuter of Prairie du Sac. His two step sons with his second wife Alice (Brinkman Hommen) Ballweg are
Kenneth Hommen of Madison and Norman & Wendy Hommen of
Gainsville Florida. His eight step children with his third wife Fran are Teresa Fisher of
Madison, Raymond & Deb Michels of Cross Plains, Celi & Michael
Phillips of Cross Plains, Janet & John Wipperfurth of Sauk City, Joe & Emily Michels of Madison, William Michaels of Dane, Kris & Michael Bradley
of Sauk City and Monica and Mark Nolden of Lodi.
He was blessed with 30 grandchildren. Brad, Ryan, Jason, Curtis, Todd,
Denise, Dennis (deceased), Corey, Kevin, Kim, Heather, Melissa, Holly,
Marlea, Danielle, Alex, Valerie, Vickie, Maureen, Travis, Amanda, Justin,
Allan, Jaimie, Nicole, Nicholas, Megan, Marina, Mariah, Martina. He also
has 34 great grand children. Bryce, Jaiden, Nataly, Bella, Hudson, Nadia,
Hayden, Connor, Colin, Kyle, Emily, Tyler, Alexandra, Kailee, Kaiden, James, Marianna, Xavier, Zoe, Anessa, Taylor, Addison, Parker, Makayla, Haylie, Veronica, Simeon, Cecelia, Felicia, Delilah, Gideon, Saige (deceased), Nalani, Harlow. He was also blessed with 15 step grandchildren.
He is survived by three sisters Evelyn Acker of Waunakee, Mary Ann (Alfred) Karls of Waunakee and Seraphine (LeRoy) Schlimgen of Mt. Horeb; brother Vincent (Janet) Ballweg of Sauk City; sister-in-law Lois Ballweg of Mazomanie; Inez's siblings, Walter and Antoinette Laufenberg, Ralph and Carol Laufenberg, Bernice (deceased) and Merten Breunig and Florentine and Allan Breunig; Alice's siblings, Robert Brinkman (deceased), Jeanette Drews (deceased), Edward (deceased) and Agnes Brinkman, Dorothy Beckwith and LaVonne "Bonnie" and Glenn Otto; Fran's siblings, Lawrence (deceased) and Shirley Schlimgen, Bernard and Rita Schlimgen, Teresa Schlimgen (deceased), Norbert and RaeJean Schlimgen, Edwin (deceased) and Breda Schlimgen and Robert (deceased) and Ruth Schlimgen. He is further survived by many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Inez (Laufenberg) Ballweg, and
his 2nd wife Alice (Brinkman Hommen) Ballweg, two children Brenda Ballweg
and Merlin Ballweg, and his parents Florian and Emma (Breunig) Ballweg, his
sisters Angeline Hensen and Leona Fass, brother Andrew Ballweg brother-in-laws Jerome Acker and Wilfred Hensen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. NORBERT CATHOLIC CHURCH, Roxbury, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2011 with Fr. John Blewett and Fr. LaVerne Maier con-celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Norbert Cemetery. Visitation will be at the RIVER ARTS CENTER attached to the South end of the Sauk Priairie High School (corner of Oak and 9th Street) from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 25th, and Saturday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Hooverson Funeral Home.
