Obituary

On July 24, 2016 the last buzzer sounded in the life of Wilfred G. Kind; husband, father, teacher, coach, Army Veteran and Catholic volunteer.

Will "Tilly" was born to the late Edwin Sr. and Ella Kind on July 10, 1931 in New Holstein, WI. He attended New Holstein High School, class of 1949; where he discovered his passion for sports and his beautiful classmate Beatrice Petrie.

After graduating, Will served in the Army and was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. He married Beatrice "Bea", the love of his life on August 22, 1953 and moved to LaCrosse, WI to pursue his dream of teaching and coaching high school athletics. He graduated from UW Lacrosse in 1957.

Will coached basketball, baseball, football, and track during his career as a high school biology and physical health teacher in Mazomanie (Wisconsin Heights), Brodhead, and Hustisford. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing cards in his free time. After his retirement, he volunteered at Madison Mallards Games, and actively supported UW Badger Teams and his grandchildren's sports teams.
Will and Bea lived in Mazomanie for 33 years, where they were members at St. Barnabas Catholic Parish, and Will was a member of the Knights of Columbus. After moving to Westshire Village in the town of Westport in 2001; they joined St. Peter's Catholic Church in Madison.
In addition to his parents, Will was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice; a brother Edwin Jr.(Veronica), sister in-law, Charlotte; and brothers in-law, Everett Doerfler and Alex Ortega.

Will is survived by his children, Jeff (Linda Scheurman), Barbara (Gary Johnson), Steve (Jayne), Paul, and Donna; grandchildren, Nicole (Nate Uecker), Natalie (Tim Finnegan), Derek (Dana) and Dylan Kind, Paige Johnson, Dalton and Danielle Kind; great-grandchildren, Sage Uecker, Jocelyn and Liam Finnegan, and Evertt Kind. He is also survived by siblings, Donald (Mary), Eloise Ortega, Dorothy Doerfler, Elroy and Roger (Bonnie). He is further surived by a large extended family and a circle of friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Fri. July 29, 2016 at St. Peter's Catholic Church 5001 North Sherman Ave., Madison with Msgr. Charles Schluter officiating. Interment will be held in the St. Barnabas Cemetery in Mazomanie. A visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Thur. July 28, at Hooverson Funeral Home, Hwy 14 West, Mazomanie, and also one hour prior to the service at church.

Will's family would like to extend their thanks to all family and friends and Will's many caregivers, especially the staff at St. Mary's Care Center who supported him during his illness.
