September 30, 1947 – March 14, 2024
William "Bill" J. Vils, age 76, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on March 14, 2024. He was born in Madison on Sept. 30, 1947 to the late Karl and Corrine (Goeser) Vils. He attended and graduated from Wis. Heights High School; class of 1966. Bill served in the Air Force National Guard 115th at Truax Field as air police; 1966-1972. Bill found the love of his life in Vonnie Maynard; They were united in marriage in Marinette MI. on June 9, 1967. He and Vonnie settled in Sauk City and raised their boys in a house he built and bricked himself. Bill worked as a Bricklayer/Mason for the Local 13 Union for over 50 years. Bill and Vonnie enjoyed many camping adventures with their 5th wheel camper, staying at many of the U.S. Army Corp of engineer campgrounds and enjoyed the outdoors. Bill had a love of hunting and fishing and chasing the bluegills and crappies; but was most proud of his boys and grandchildren and loved to share those moments with them. Bill always had a strong love for the Lord and served him all his life.
Bill is survived by his wife, Vonnie; sons, Craig (Kendra) and Justin (Neisha) Vils; grandchildren, Kylie, Nolan and Marshall; siblings, Irma (Claude) Rademacher, Joan Bickelhaupt, Jenny (Mike) Fehrenbach, Monica (Jesse) Brawner, Mark (Yvonne) Vils, Tom (Amy) Vils. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents Karl & Corrine, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael; and brothers, David, Herb and Robert and a brother-in-law Joe Bickelhaupt.
A memorial service for Bill will be held on Saturday March, 23, 2024 at 11:00 am at Tower Rock Elementary School, S9033 Denzer Rd., Prairie du Sac. A visitation will be held from 9:30 am until the time of service. Military Honors will be accorded by the Lachmund-Cramer VFW Post 7694 following the service. Interment will be held in the Sauk Prairie Cemetery at a later date.
