Zona Ruth Dickerson, age 89, of Sauk City, passed away Friday, November 28, 2014 at Maplewood Nursing home in Sauk City. Zona, the second of five daughters, was born on January 5, 1925 in Cassell Prairie to the late Walter and Dorothy (Heydon) Leykauf.
Zona enjoyed growing up on the farm and helping Pa with the chores. She later married their hired hand, Gaige O. Dickerson in 1941. The couple raised a family of seven children. Zona was a good cook and never hesitated to put another plate on the table when someone would drop in. She liked to play euchre, dance the polka and listen to country music. Zona was happy when people would come to visit, and looked forward to visits from her sisters. She was a member of First United Church of Christ, Sauk City.
Survivors include a daughter, Peggy (Tom) Alt; three sons, Walter "Butch" Dickerson, David (Joene Lilley) Dickerson, Gary (Lori) Dickerson, all of Sauk City; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Alt of Milwaukee, Scott (Shawna) Alt, Jennifer (Dennis) Frey, and Stacy (Troy) Breunig, all of Sauk City; seven great-grandchildren, Ashley, Thomas, William, Ridge, Carolyn, Mallory and Gaige; a sister Ramona (Robert) Laufenberg of Waunakee; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Gaige on November 13, 2000; three children, Mary Jane Krueger, Carol Ann Dickerson, and Terry "Tony" Dickerson; three sisters, Frances Giese, June Fern Leykauf and Betty Haas.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at First United Church of Christ, Sauk City. A visitation will be held from 9:30 am until time of service. Burial will follow in the Sauk City Cemetery.
